Tablets pass through the digestive system before being absorbed (First Pass Metabolism) which eliminates up to 1/3 of the active drug before it enters the blood stream and delays absorption. Troches offer all the benefits of tablets plus the benefits the sublingual route of administration offers like much faster absorption, increased bioavailability (higher concentration in blood stream), and flexibility of dosing due to no influence on effectiveness by stomach content. Compounded troches also offer unique benefits like adjustable dosage portions and specially formulated combinations. Troches can be quartered or halved to fit each patients needs and can be compounded with multiple ingredients to enhance effectiveness and reduce potential side effects.
